When it comes to precision optics, the Mark 4HD and Mark 5HD riflescopes are undeniably at the forefront. The Mark 5HD has proven itself for years in the toughest conditions, and the Mark 4HD is all set to carry on that lineage of strength and accuracy. So, which one belongs on your rifle? Well, since making the right decision usually hinges on being well-informed, we've highlighted the key facts and features of each, providing you with plenty of information to make that call.

A Shared Foundation

The first thing to know about these scopes is that they’re built around our Professional-Grade Optical System, delivering unmatched light transmission for optimal performance in challenging lighting conditions. This system also excels in reducing glare and providing razor-sharp resolution. So, regardless of whether you spend time in the field or compete in high-stress competitions, both the Mark 4HD and Mark 5HD riflescopes will provide you with enough edge-to-edge clarity to spot every detail on every target.

Another shared trait is their origin. Both products are manufactured in the USA and undergo meticulous machining, assembly, and tolerance testing to ensure reliability under any circumstance. Only after this process are they stamped with the Leupold logo and backed by our lifetime guarantee. Now that we've covered the similarities, let's get to some notable differences between them.

The Mark 4HD

The Mark 4HD stands out with its long list of features. Its new PR3 reticle (available on select models) is based on our popular PR2 reticle and offers a clear view with minimal distractions, making it perfect for quick engagements and precise long-range shots. Certain models of the Mark 4HD also come with a side-focus adjustment that can dial down to 25 yards for sighting in your rimfire rifle. To put that into perspective, that's 25 yards closer than what you can do with the Mark 5HD. Additional options in this lineup include a ZeroLock windage dial and a new simplified M5C3 elevation dial featuring enlarged first-row numbers.

Now, while you could take hours to delve into the nuances of these riflescopes, the decision between them essentially boils down to your budget, shooting style, and specific needs. If you're looking for a professional-grade optic that won't break the bank, the Mark 4HD is an excellent choice. It features quality glass, a slimmer maintube, and a more budget-friendly price tag. On the other hand, if you prioritize versatility and want a scope with a broader magnification range and a proven track record, then the Mark 5HD is the way to go.

Color Meets Capability

Whether you're out in the field or on the range, these riflescopes are designed to blend seamlessly with your environment, providing an edge in both style and performance. Selecting the Right Reticle

Choosing the right reticle is about asking what job you’re trying to accomplish. For example, grid-style patterns might be great for long-range shooters, but hunters might find them too cluttered with information. You will also need to determine what unit of measure you would like to use, MIL or MOA. No matter which one you’re comfortable with, we’ve got you covered. All Mark 4HD and Mark 5HD models are available in both MOA and MIL configurations with several reticle options, like the popular PR-1 and PR-2.

TRADITIONAL

These simpler reticle patterns offer limited information but provide a less obscured field of view and are great if the shooter will be dialing a majority of the time.

TRADITIONAL RETICLES:

GRID

This family of reticles gives the most information but takes up a larger part of the field of view. These patterns are great for fast hold-over style shooting and calling accurate corrections.

GRID RETICLES:

TREE

The tree reticles balance speed of use with an open field of view for finding targets and seeing trace. These work well using a combination of dialing and holding-over to engage targets.
