6.5 Creedmoor Goals

At Leupold, building the world's best scopes is our job. Building custom rifles that put those scopes to the test is our passion. This is the Leupold Gun Rack - a place to share the firearms built and used by Leupold employees.

This month, we're putting Michael B's custom rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor on display. As our lead instructor for the Leupold Optics Academy and a retired Army Sniper Instructor, Michael knows his way around a bolt gun. He hand picked each component of this setup to achieve one goal - long-range precision.

At the core of his custom build is a BAT Machine VR action, which has a Remington 700 short action footprint. These actions are renowned for their accuracy and exacting tolerances - something we're definitely familiar with at Leupold. Threaded into that action is a 24" carbon fiber Proof Research barrel with a sendero profile to keep it lightweight and deadly accurate.

To save his hearing, Michael added an all-titanium Thunder Beast Arms Ultra7 can. For added stability during those long-range shots, he opted for a tried and true Harris bipod and Larue quick detach system. A Manners PRS 2 carbon fiber stock with the mini chassis (internal aluminum block) and a Badger Ordnance EFR (embedded front rail) mount complete the package.

The end result is rock solid while also being lightweight and highly adjustable.

Doubling Down on Precision with the Mark 5HD

Sitting atop this incredible build is our brand new Mark 5HD 5-25x56mm scope with a H59 reticle. This scope was designed to stretch a shooter's limits. During the development process, we asked countless experts what they wanted in an ideal long-rang scope, mixed in a little engineering wizardry, and finally brought the Mark 5HD to life. Needless to say, we're pretty stoked about the result! And, of course, it's designed, machined, and assembled in the U.S.A.

Michael's custom rifle feels as much at home on the range (or PRS match shooting 1000+ yards) as it does in the backcountry chasing after monster bull elk. It definitely blurs the lines between a "tactical" and a "hunting" rifle. What's even cooler is strapping on a Knights Armament Co. PVS30 night vision scope and sending it at night.
