The Quality Deer Management Association (QDMA™) promotes a herd management philosophy of producing better, biologically and socially balanced deer herds for hunting. By protecting young bucks and harvesting an adequate number of does, property owners or managers can maintain a healthy population in balance with existing habitat conditions and landowner desires, while producing healthier deer herds for hunters.
The four main pillars of Quality Deer Management® philosophy are herd management, habitat management, hunter management, and herd monitoring. Essentially, this means determining how many deer of each sex to harvest, providing the proper food and other conditions for deer to thrive, educating hunters about what deer to harvest and when, and finally, carefully keeping track of the numbers and condition of the herd. More and more landowners, hunters, and wildlife managers across North America are embracing QDM, and Leupold is proud to assist the Quality Deer Management Association in their efforts to promote the practice and philosophy of QDM.
